Our females are the heart and soul of our herd. There are no daisies around here though. These girls have to earn their keep. Our girls are exposed to a wide range of environments and forages. The cow/calf pastures vary from knee-deep cattail swamps to endophyte fescue in the creek bottoms. The hillsides that they climb to graze bermuda and crab grass in the high meadows would make a mountain goat think twice.
Our girls get a straw of semen and about 10 days later they get a cover bull for around 60 day. We require them to get bred or get gone unless we caused the problem.
Please forgive us that we have been combining our spring and fall herds into one winter herd. This has caused some of our cows to move seasons due to pulling bulls early.
